Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI): everything you need to know

Overview

Palma de Mallorca Airport — IATA code PMI, ICAO code LEPA — sits about 8 km east of Palma, the island's capital, just off the Ma-19 motorway. It's one of the busiest airports in Spain and the main gateway for the millions of visitors who arrive in Mallorca each year, with traffic peaking heavily between May and October.

The airport is operated by AENA, the same public body that manages Spain's other major airports, and it was recognised as the Best Airport in Europe in its size category (25–40 million passengers) in both 2023 and 2024.

Passenger traffic

PMI closed 2025 with 33.8 million passengers, a 1.5% increase on 2024 and a new all-time record for the airport. International flights account for the large majority of that traffic — around 24.8 million passengers — reflecting Mallorca's position as a summer destination for travellers from Germany, the UK, and the rest of Europe, alongside strong domestic connections to mainland Spain.

Airlines and destinations

PMI is a key European hub, served by major carriers including Iberia, Ryanair, Vueling, EasyJet, Lufthansa and Air Europa. Its busiest routes connect Palma with cities such as Barcelona, Madrid, London, Berlin, Düsseldorf and Cologne, alongside dozens of seasonal routes that ramp up during the summer months.

Terminal layout

The airport has a single main terminal split into four modules — A, B, C and D — each handling different airlines and routes. This layout helps keep passenger flow manageable even during the busiest arrival banks of the summer season, though it does mean it's worth checking your module in advance if someone is picking you up.

Services at the airport

PMI offers the amenities you'd expect from a major European airport: shops, restaurants, VIP lounges, car rental desks, free Wi-Fi, and assistance for passengers with reduced mobility. For onward travel, there are public buses and taxi ranks right outside arrivals — though if you're heading to North Mallorca specifically, a pre-booked private transfer is usually faster and far less stressful after a long flight.

Getting from PMI to North Mallorca

If your hotel is in Alcudia, Playa de Muro, Port Pollença or Ca'n Picafort, you're looking at roughly 40–60 minutes by road from the airport, depending on traffic and exactly where you're staying. Public buses run this route but involve at least one change and considerably more time; taxis are readily available but prices aren't fixed in advance.
